About the Selinsgrove Xpress Lube
When Steve and Todd Bogush were growing up in Middleburg, like most young men, they had no idea what they would end up doing for a living. But through an interesting turn of events, found themselves the owners and operators of one of the Susquehanna Valley's hottest new franchise businesses.
Steve and Todd’s Dad was a major influence on their careers, but they never realized it until many years later. Steve graduated with honors from Bloomsburg University with a BS in Business. After two stints and nine years in the Marine Corps, Todd graduated from Penn State with a BS in Business.
Since they were very young, their father, a maintenance supervisor, instilled in them the importance of maintaining their cars. Like his Dad, Steve was a stickler for changing the oil regularly along with the other aspects of maintaining his vehicles. On the other hand, Todd learned the hard way after three new engines how important it was to keep his car engine properly lubricated.
Eventually, the brother’s appreciation of auto mechanics led them to purchasing a small gas station along Routes 11 and 15 in Shamokin Dam. Todd worked the gas station while Steve managed a local Fastenal Store.
Steve drove a company car, and when it needed an oil change, he would take it to a local chain store. One day, it was time to change the oil, and due to his busy schedule, Steve needed it done fast. He always took it to a particular national chain, but this time the service manager told him he would have to wait four hours. “What?” Steve said as he looked into the garage and saw three mechanics sitting idle. Steve asked why they couldn't do it now and the service manager told Steve those mechanics were tire guys. The oil change guys were on a break and had other jobs ahead of his. The service manager went on to tell Steve if he didn't want to wait, he would have to take his business somewhere else.
Steve burned rubber out of their parking lot and drove from shop to shop along Routes 11 and 15 but could not find one shop able to change his oil in less than hours if not days. When he pulled into the station he and Todd just purchased, he told Todd, "Change the oil and then we're tearing this place down and going into the quick lube business". At first Todd wasn't very excited about the idea, but after searching all over the country for the right company, they found Texaco's new Quick Lube Franchise. They were impressed with Texaco's no pressure way of doing business, professional customer focus, and high quality premium products.
They signed on, and today a new Xpress Lube sits in place of their old gas station. At the Xpress Lubes you can have your oil changed and a complete 15-point check in about ten minutes without an appointment. From time to time you can even see the 1955 Ford F-100 Steve and Todd's father bought new sitting out front. It still runs like a top because Steve’s dad always kept it maintained, including changing the oil every three thousand miles.
